files are cutting tools that have large numbers of small teeth >
These hardened steel teeth can cut softer materials . Pressure on the
file makes its teeth penetrate the surface to be filed. When the file is
forced forward minute cuttings are removed from the surface being filed
. For each type of matrial there is on ideal tooth from that gives the
most efficient cutting action

SELECTION OF FILE
for any job , there are five factor to consider when selecting the proper files for use . These are
1- The type of material to be filed
2- The nature of the surface and its shape
3- The amount of material to be removed
4- The surface finish to be produced by filing
5- the amount of wear of files

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR FILES:
1- KIND
files are often identified by certain familiar terms , such as flat
, mill or half-round . These terms describe either the general
appearance or the common used of the tool.
2- LENGTH
the
length is the distance between its heel and its point the tang is never
included . File length vary from 4inch to 18 inch and the most commonly
used (6 , 8 ,10 and 12)inch>
3- CUT
the cut of file may
be describe in two ways ; by the coarseness of the cutting surface and
by number and arrangement of teeth or cutting edges .
